Wedding Description –

The ceremony was held at 1:00 in the afternoon on Saturday April 20th, 2002 in the Castle of Choltice, in the town of Choltice in the Czech republic.
The day was cloudy but was warm with no rain. David, the best man picked up Mark from the hotel while Stana was getting prepared at her parents home. After all meeting at Stana’s parents, we proceeded to drive to the town of Choltice about 20 minutes away, being careful to not let the groom see the bride.
Standing as witnesses were our friends Susan Maresova (brides maid) and David Halbrstat (best man) with Stana’s nieces Nela & Majka Morchova being flower girls. The wedding ceremony started with a civil ceremony in which we exchanged our rings sealing it with a kiss. At this point we were declared legally married, after which we signed the register.
Monika & Bogdan Pilchs, friends of ours then played the guitar and sang in english “Till we meet again”. This was followed by a religious ceremony performed by Frantisek Milacek the pastor of the Christian Fellowship Church to which Stana belongs. During this ceremony we said our personalized wedding vows in english, and the pastor blessed our marriage.
Following the receiving line, we were surprised by the Klicenky singing group, of which Nela & Majka are members. They performed three songs, one of which they prepared especially for us. After the photos were taken in the castle garden, a reception was held for the family of the bride and the wedding party at the restaurant By The Green Tree, in Stana’s home town of Pardubice.
We were met at the door by two employees who presented Stana and I with a drink and made a toast to our wedding. Then in Czech tradition a plate was broken at the entrance and cleaned up by the bride and groom. We did not even know the man was holding a plate until he dropped and broke it at our feet, causing us both to jump. At the table we had in a private room, the best man and Stana’s father made a toast to our marriage. Then also in Czech tradition we shared a bowl of soup which we fed to each other with our hands tied together. After our meal I called home to my parents in Canada, and then Stana & I cut the wedding cake.
For a honeymoon we traveled to an area known as Czech Paradise located in the mountains of northern Czech republic. We stayed at one hotel as a base and for 5 days we hiked through national parks of giant sandstone formations which were really amazing.

Ten den bylo zatazeno, ale teplo a neprselo. David, Markuv svedek, vyzvedl Marka z hotelu, zatimco se Stana pripravovala doma. Pote, co jsme se vsichni sesli v byte Staninych rodicu, nasedli jsme do aut a jeli do asi 20 minut vzdalenych Choltic, snazice se zabranit zenichovi, aby uvidel nevestu.
Svedkove byli Zuzana Maresova a David Halbrstat, Staniny netere Nela a Majka Morchovy sly za druzicky. Obrad zacal civilnim obradem, ve kterem jsme si vymenili prsteny a zpecetili ho polibkem. Podepsali jsme se do oddaci knihy a timto nabyl snatek pravni moci.
Nasi pratele Monika a Bogdan Pilchovi zahrali na kytaru a zazpivali anglicky “Till we meet again”. Pak nasledoval cirkevni obrad, ktery vedl Frantisek Milacek, pastor Krestanskeho spolecenstvi, ke kteremu Stana patri. Behem tohoto obradu jsme si v anglictine rekli sve osobni sliby a pastor pozehnal nasemu snatku.
Nasledovaly gratulace hostu a pri vychodu z oddaci sine jsme byli prekvapeni peveckym souborem Klicenky, jehoz jsou Majka a Nela clenkami. Zazpivali tri pisne, z nichz jednu secvicili jen pro tuto prilezitost. Pote, co jsme dokoncili foceni v zamecke zahrade, vratili jsme se do Pardubic, kde se pro rodinu a pozvane hosty konala hostina v restauraci “U zeleneho stromu”.
Dva zamestnanci restaurace nas uvitali pred vchodem, nabidli nam sklenicku destilatu a pripili na nasi svatbu. Podle ceske tradice byl rozbit talir, ktery nevesta se zenichem museli spolecne uklidit. Vubec jsme nevedeli, ze cisnik ten talir drzi, dokud ho neupustil, coz zpusobilo, ze jsme se oba lekli. Pred hostinou v soukromem salonku pronesli svedek a Stanin otec pripitky k nasi svatbe. Pote take podle ceske tradice jsme se podelili o talir polevky, kterou jsme se museli navzajem nakrmit svazanyma rukama. Po obede Mark zavolal svym rodicum domu a pak jsme rozkrojili svatebni dort.
Na svatebni cestu jsme odcestovali do oblasti Ceskeho Raje, ktery se nachazi severne od Pardubic. Bydleli jsme v penzionu v Polici nad Metuji, odkud jsme po pet dni poradali tury po narodnim parku, kde jsme obdivovali skutecne nadherne skalni piskovcove utvary.
